Jamie Cockburn
Jamie Cockburn, Barrister & Solicitor
Jamie was born in Orangeville, Ontario, and lives with his wife in Guelph, Ontario.
Jamie completed his Bachelor of Environmental Studies (Hons.) at the University of Waterloo in 2016. During his undergraduate studies, he worked in several environmental and natural resource-related roles with various government organizations, including Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada.
Jamie obtained his law degree (cum laude) from the University of Ottawa in 2020. During law school, he served on the Ottawa Law Review, participated in the uOttawa–Ecojustice Environmental Law Clinic, and worked as an Aboriginal Law Summer Student with the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General (Northern Development and Mines – Legal Services).
After law school, Jamie completed his articles and practiced mainly in civil litigation with a large regional law firm in Guelph. His work focused on municipal law and land-use planning issues, condominium-related disputes, and included providing advisory, negotiation, and litigation services to a host of individuals, corporations, and statutory (local) governments.
Jamie has appeared before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Land Tribunal, the Information and Privacy Commissioner (Ontario), and the Condominium Authority Tribunal (Ontario).
Jamie serves on the board of directors of the Yorklands Green Hub – a cultural and natural heritage non-profit in Guelph. He is an outdoor enthusiast and enjoys hiking, canoeing, backcountry camping and downhill skiing.
Early in 2023, he joined Howe Legal.
Jamie has been a member of the Law Society of Ontario since 2021. He is also a member of the Wellington Law Association.
